23 May 2010 sees the 10-year celebration of the Global Day of Prayer. As we look back over 10 years where hundreds of millions from 220 countries in the world united for a day of repentance and prayer, we stand in awe before our God who’s glory is filling the earth “as the waters cover the sea” (Hab. 2:14). BUT, we know that our work isn’t done and at this year’s planning meeting it was once again confirmed that GDOP will continue in 2010 and beyond. There is a clear sense that it will be a new season, with new depth and most probably a new strategy. Our commitment is to listen carefully to the voice of the Spirit and to follow His guidance step-by-step. Again we want to thank you for your partnership in this move of God and we want to challenge you to take hands with us as we enter a new and exciting season! Let’s make 2010 a celebration in honor of the King! Whilst we are inviting you to our Celebration Conference in Cape Town from 19 – 23 May 2010, we want to challenge you to gather even more Christians in your nations to unite with the nations of the world on 23 May 2010. Please take note of a few personnel changes in the GDOP Office. Dawie Spangenberg, who will now have a wider responsibility, that will include the GDOP 2010 Conference, Lausanne and a few other projects, has handed over the position of International Coordinator for GDOP to Etienne Piek, who has been the International Youth Coordinator. Isebel Spangenberg will remain the Administrative Coordinator.
The global economic crisis is also having its effect on the work of GDOP and therefore we had to think creatively about the mobilization process for 2010. We will NOT be sending out any Information CD’s this year.
A new 3-minute video was made and this, together with all the info needed to mobilize your day of prayer, will be available on a brand new website by 31 August. All videos will be available for download from a high quality FTP-site. Isebel will keep good contact with you via the GDOP Office and we would still like to invite you to contact us with any requests or suggestions. This office’s main goal remains to serve you in the best possible way. GDOP started out as a grass roots prayer movement and part of the new season is for each one of us to take ownership to further advance the vision of prayer and repentance. Let’s use every possible way and every possible contact to get the word out and to see millions more involved as we celebrate GDOP 2010. The emphasis for GDOP 2010 comes from Joel 2, with an urgent call to move from confession to deeper repentance for the sake of God’s compassionate healing to be poured out over our nations. As much as we need to take responsibility to respond upon this call, so it is that we need to spread the word and involve the whole Body of Christ across the globe. An update and challenge to take hands with us to further the mobilisation of the Global Day of Prayer would be sent out within the next few days. Please pray with us as we trust God for a breakthrough. May God bless you and all your efforts towards GDOP 2010. Blessings! The Global Day of Prayer Team P.O.
